The latest issue of the New Yorker features a work of fiction by Tessa Hadley entitled "A Mouthful of Cut Glass" in which one of the central characters is an unapologetic Brummie whose dad is a tool-setter at Lucas Engineering in the 70s.
As someone whose dad was a tool-maker at the Lucas factory in Formans Road for the entire 70s, let me just say it's about time we had our culture patronized by the cosmopolitan elite. And one day we'll get round to patronizing you back, except you won't be able to tell.
