Sorry, Reidski, are you the Chuck Palahniuk hater?
It's a line from Fight Club. The person you sit next to on a flight and never meet again. The reference is to airline food portions.
I don't hate him, I just think he's pish. Started watching Fight Club and just didn't get it, thought it was crap and gave up less than an hour into it. Also got a free book with a newspaper one time - the odious snobbish Guardian, I think it was - of his short stories and thought they were all rubbish (well, the ones I could be bothered reading, that is).
Maybe I need to give him another chance - or maybe not!!

Re; the 'single serving friend', which I too was confuddled by, until your explanation in answer to Reidski.
Don't know if you've ever read this from the scary man himself, Henry Rollins, but it's relevant to the term and manages to raise a smile from my usually miserable sundial.
