A Mixed Blessing

Watching footie over the Internet, that is.

Two weeks ago I signed up for a €6-a-year online subscription that has enabled me to watch four Premiership matches every Saturday on my laptop using peer-to-peer software, sometimes using Malaysian TV, sometimes Chilean, sometimes Chinese, and sometimes ESPN, but always, it seems, with the Villa losing. And tonight I was able to watch Barcelona get stuffed by Espanyol 3-1 on Chinese TV. It could have been 7-1; Pandiani came on for the last half hour and had four clear-cut chances while Barcelona pressed. It's a good job that he's so shit, but what does that say about Barcelona under Rijkaard. The only upside to the game was seeing Frankie boy express his rage by punching a hole through the side window of the dugout, albeit as an expression of frustration at his own inability to manage a team at this level.

Having said all that, at least I'm not giving any money to Murdoch as I suffer the indignity of supporting losers. That would really suck.

You have got to be fucking joking with this post.

Have you ever tried supporting Newcastle United (Online or otherwise). feel the pain you bastards.

Manure in reverse. That's us lot.

Yes, John, you do have to be fucking joking with this post, but for different reasons. Frankie's "inability to manage a team at this level."
WHAT??? Not the same Frank that managed the team to three (I think) Spanish titles and the Champions League? When Eto'o gets back in that side, they will stroll to the title and, I guess, another champions league success (unless they play Celtic in the last eight, of course!)

We'll see in a couple of weeks' time, Will!

Yes, Reidski, the very same. Barca have only managed 6 points from the last 15. They've been missing Ronaldinho, who came back last night, and still miss Messi and Eto'o, but that's why Barca win stuff: the quality of the players, not the manager. They do it in spite of him, and when they're not there, he can't make up the difference.

You know why Pandiani is shit.

Ex-bluenose.

Yeah but how many of you follow ateam who were 2-1 up at half time only to lose 2-1 in the last minute. That's Alty's cup form for you.

It's not as if Ronaldinho, Eto'o or Messi are average players. Any team in the world would miss them and it's very difficult to have the required quality on the bench when those three are in your first team.

What sort of player will you attract when he knows he's going to spend most of his season on the bench?

Not defending Rijkaard, because I think he's a cunt, but you're being a bit harsh on him.

Hi Twenty--

yes, I know. I plead drunken blogging. I posted at 3.15 a.m. after:

3/4 bottle of wine
1/2 bottle of Paddy
1 large Southern Comfort
1 large Pappy Van Winkle's Kentucky Bourbon
1 bottle of Tuborg.

Consequently, I was less retrained in my judgment than usual. It was th eTuborg that did it.

Mart: Care to elucidate?

FA Trophy 1st Rnd Replay vs Tamworth (away).

Match abandoned at half time due to fog with Alty winning 2-1.

Restaged on Saturday, Alty 1-0 up with 3 mins to go, lost 2-1.

That hurts.

Lightweight.

Did you ever look at Thiago Motta and rue your teenage years drinking and not dedicating your life to football? How does that cunt get a game?

Twenty--

I'm 93, you know.

Will--

My boss is a Newcastle United supporter. You don't begrudge me that one small victory I have over him every Monday morning, do you?

I couldn't possibly comment on the actual matter of the post, but Will's mention of "Manure in reverse" is fascinating.
What would that be? The opposite of cheap and smelly but fertile? Expensive, odourless but barren...

John said...

Stef!! Did you try the Faulkners link I posted below?

I'll let Will explain his own metaphor.

Will said...

Re metaphore: Everything that they aren't we are. Everything that we are, they aren't. And heading the opposite direction to where they (usually) end up.

Or something like that. metaphores aren't my strong point.

Cheers, Will. Actually, it works!

I see Tamworth had another game abandone last night.

Is their chairman Malaysian?

John said...

I hope that's a gambling joke and not a tsunami reference.

Will said...

So you see what I did there eh?

Left plenty of room for ambiguity.

On top of that. See the results tonight? Manure will win their next game 20 nil and go on to win the FA Cup. You read it here first gentleman (and lasses - not sure if there's any ladies involved here).

Give me the fucking razor blade now you fuckers!

(anyone volunteering for the giving of such item can get in the fucking queue).

What can I say, Will? I stand corrected.

John,

check out the bit torrent site, UK Nova, that has Match of the Day and Scotsport available for download.

Btw, didn't Birmingham beat some Geordies last night? I heard it was a tight game.

John said...

Thanks, Darren. I get British terrestrial TV here because we're close enough to the border to get a decent reception from the transmitter, so I can watch Match of the Day.

We're trying not to mention the other thing.
