They are quite good. But face it; Mr Brooks did this one once and for all time with Spring time for Hitler/The Producers. Mostel and Wilder were comic gold in that one.
But "The Producers" a MUSICAL? Mel Brooks' original wasn't.... That said I quite enjoyed the film of the stage show of the film. I saw it in New York on a Christmas Day afternoon at the Ziegfeld Theatre. What I couldn't quite handle was the audience applauding the songs as if we were actually seeing a live musicial. Weird.

One of the few musicals I can bear, Mike. The Producers and the Blues Brothers.
But never mind that. Look at the quality of those puns. Do you realize just how much work went into them?! ;-)

You're right, of course. Possibly that's why I find it bearable. And the Blues Brothers isn't exactly a musical given the 45-minute car chase.
